Nov 1 - Step back in time with a visit to the Education on Location activity being held in the Bowman Auditorium, Collins Center, Ohio University Southern Campus in Ironton, OH. Beginning at 6 p.m., the 11 member "Blue and Grass" Brass Band will perform Civil War era music on authentic period instruments. Then enjoy a reenactment of conversations between Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee in the spring of 1865, as the two military commanders are reunited after being forced to become adversaries during the war. Nov 1 – The Highlands Museum, in Ashland, will host “Every Child is an Artist” on Nov 1, 8 and 15 from 12:45 - 2:15 p.m. The program provides a preschool art experience for child and caregiver, including story and playtime. The series cost is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. Walk-ins will be charged $10 per session. For additional information, or to register, call 606-329-8888.
Nov 2 – Dec 31 - Holiday at the Highlands: A Victorian Christmas at the Highlands Museum in Ashland.
Nov 2 – Ashland Senior Center will offer a class titled “Making Homemade Rolls for the Holidays.” The lesson will include making dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and breads. Those attending will have the chance to sample some of the instructor’s bakery creations. The class will be held at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Winchester Avenue, Ashland, KY. Tickets are $10 per person and are available at the Senior Citizens Center at 324 15th Street, Ashland; or by calling the center at 606-324-7323. Proceeds will go to the Senior Center.
Nov 3 – The 2nd Annual “Grape Expectations,” a benefit for the Paramount Arts Center, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Paramount Arts Center on Winchester Ave. in Ashland, KY. More than a wine tasting, the evening will offer fine beverages of several varieties, as well as light appetizers. Entertainment will be provided by Kathleen Chamis. This event will be hosted by Bridges Magazine, Carter Avenue Beverage Center and the Bellefonte Country Club. Get your ticket now by contacting the PAC.
Nov 3 – The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center in Ashland, KY, will host the opening of the exhibit “A Victorian Christmas” from 5-8 p.m. This event is being held in conjunction with downtown’s burgeoning “First Friday Art Walk.” A release party for Roger Smith’s CD “My Life in Song” will also be held at this time.
Nov 4 – Boyd and Greenup County NAACP will hold their 2006 Freedom Fund Banquet “Mardi Gras Evening” at the El Hasa Shrine Temple in Cannonsburg, KY. The reception will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner scheduled for 7 p.m. and dancing at 9:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Angela Farris Watkins, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Mr. David Austin, the “Party Maker”, will provide music. Nov 4 – The 7th annual River Cities Harvest canned-food drive concert will be held at the Ashland Town Center Mall from 12-5 p.m. This year’s hosts will be WTCR’s Scotty Frasure and Eddie Riffe. Performers will include Alan Mullins, Wendy April, Sarah Roseberry, Tom Clay, Sheldon Road, Aaron Burns, ETA, Roger Smith, Paul Callicoat, Lyndsey Caudill and Stephen Salyers. Admission will be cans of food to help stock the organization’s pantry.
Nov 4 – The St. Ann Catholic Women of Chesapeake will sponsor its annual Holiday Bazaar/Bake Sale in the parish hall from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 310 Third Avenue, Chesapeake, Ohio. There will be handmade crafts, Christmas ornaments and decorations, as well as baked goods. There will be a raffle for several craft items, as well as a cash prize. Refreshments and lunch will be offered.
Nov 4 – The South Ashland Lions Club will sponsor a Pancake Day from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1811 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY. The cost is $5 per person. Proceeds will benefit the sight conservation and project fund.
Nov 4 & 5 – The Jesse Stuart Lodge at Greenbo Lake State Resort will host an antique show. The show will begin at 10 a.m. both days, ending at 6 p.m. on Saturday and ending at 4 p.m. on Sunday. For more information call 800-325-0083 or 606-473-7324.

The Cha-Cha will be the dance style taught in November. No partner is required. Dress is casual but shoes suitable for dancing are urged. The cost is $5 per person at the door. Nov 7 – Russell Civic League will hold a hot dog sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Rail City Hardware in downtown Russell.

Nov 9 – The Ashland Senior Center will have Thanksgiving Family Friend Feast. Dinner, which will be served from 5-7 p.m. at the Center (located at 324 15th Street, Ashland, KY) will include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry relish, homemade rolls and homemade desserts. All food will be prepared at the center by the staff. Tickets are $5 per person and are available from board members and employees of the center. For further information, call 606-324-7323. Nov 9 – Flatwoods Senior Center will have a dance from 7-9 p.m., with music by Ron Slone. Refreshments will be served. There will be an admission charge. For more information, call 494-2362.
Nov 10-11 - “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” at Park Place.
Nov 11 – A marker will be dedicated in honor of veterans at the Russell Depot, in Russell, KY at 11 a.m. The planned Veteran’s Memorial Walk will be made up of bricks, which have been inscribed with veteran’s names. Applications for the bricks can be obtained from the Russell Civic League, following the ceremony and from various league members thereafter; or at either the Price-Smith Insurance Agency or the Russell City Building, both in downtown Russell. The cost will be $35 per brick, which includes up to 3 lines (up to 13 characters per line) of inscription.
Nov 11 & 12 – A Fastpitch Softball Clinic will be held at KC Diamond (behind KFC/Taco Bell on U.S. Rt. 60) for ages 8 and up. The sessions will be held from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and from 1-4 p.m. The fee will be $30 per session. For more information, call 928-0903

Nov 18 – Campbell Chapel Freewill Baptist Church will have its annual bake and craft sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, off Ohio 52 on Ohio 141 in Ironton, Ohio. Nov 25 – The Billy Ray Cyrus Foundation Christmas benefit dinner dance, “Rockin’ ‘Round the Christmas Tree”, will be held at the Bellefonte Country Club from 7 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Music will be provided by Stephen Salyers, Ron Hardeman, ETA and Jessica Baldridge. There will be a silent auction preceding the 7 p.m. dinner. Tickets are $50 a person and can be purchased from board members or the Ashland Tourism Commission office.
